A nation loses a president, Gerald Ford loses a pool
December 27th, 2006
With today’s passing of Gerald Ford, he officially loses the CNN.com Obituary Pool.
What is the CNN.com Obituary Pool, you ask? On April 16, 2003, The Smoking Gun reported that several of CNN.com’s preprepared online obituaries had been found by “the intrepid folks at fark.com.” The public figures included?
- Bob Hope (d. 2003)
- Ronald Reagan (d. 2004)
- Pope John Paul II (d. 2005)
- Gerald Ford (d. 2006)
- Dick Cheney
- Nelson Mandela
- Fidel Castro
Now, Nelson Mandela and Dick Cheney don’t look as if they’re going anywhere soon, but Ford looked awfully close to edging out Castro recently and collecting that 3rd place money.
So who’s your money on now? Sure, Dick Cheney may be over 20 years Nelson Mandela’s junior, but this is the Cheney who’s had four heart attacks and a bypass.
Also, check out the leaked Ford obit, and the recently published real one, as well as one of my favorite SNL sketches.
